HP EliteBook 840

Security, manageability and performance in an ultrathin design

The ultrathin HP EliteBook 840 handles even the most demanding tasks with streamlined efficiency with enterprise-class performance, comprehensive security, and a refined collaboration experience.

Introduction, Design & Features

HP's EliteBooks have been perennial favorites among business buyers, and with good reason—the series offers security, durability, and ergonomics at an affordable price.

Enter the redesigned EliteBook 800 series, which boasts the same military-grade durability and robust security features as its predecessors in a svelte new magnesium-alloy chassis. HP didn't skimp on the hardware, either—the 14-inch entry in the series, the EliteBook 840 G1, features a current-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 250Gb Hard Drive.

Design

The EliteBook 840 G1 sports an elegant, understated design. The notebook's smooth, dark gray lid is constructed of a sturdy magnesium-aluminum alloy with a soft-touch finish and features an engraved HP logo in the center.

The magnesium-alloy deck features a lighter gunmetal gray finish with a black keyboard cradle. A speaker grille runs the width of the notebook above the keyboard, and is flanked by a mute button and wireless toggle on the right and the power button on the left. The 720p Webcam is centered above the 14-inch display.

Like previous EliteBooks, the 840 G1 was designed to withstand rigorous MIL-STD-810G testing, which includes prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, sudden drops onto hard surfaces, and blowing dust. Additionally, HP claims that its business notebooks undergo 115,000 hours of performance trials, ranging from opening and closing the screen hinges 30,000 times to performing 20 million keystrokes.
